The Kingsley Hotel was born in 1998 and has grown to be an integral part of the hotel sector in Ireland's second capital, Cork. In 2005, the hotel's directors, Thomas Mc Carthy and Thomas Kelly invested hugely in developing and repositioning the now 5-star Kingsley Hotel to be set apart as a place of sheer luxury and contentment.
The Kingsley Hotel now features 131 spacious and luxurious guest rooms including 9 suites, and 1 penthouse suite all decorated in a classic, contemporary style with art nouveau accents. Specifically designed for the needs of the executive traveler, all of the hotel rooms incorporate state-of-the-art technology along with the comforts one expects from a 5-star hotel. Yauvana Spa and the Health Club offer guests a broad range of facilities in a serene atmosphere.
Here is a little history about the site that The Kingsley Hotel is now situated. Lee Pool (baths) opened in 1934 to the public and was closed on 10th August 1986. The Lee Pool was an open-air unheated swimming pool, which for many years was extremely popular with Cork people. With the Eglinton Street Baths, it was the main swimming facility in the City. In the 70s and early 80s, it was opened for approximately eight to ten weeks annually. Over a number of summers, the bad weather and low usage together with substantial staffing and operation costs and the provision of new indoor pools at Douglas and Churchfield, led to a decision to allow the pool to remain closed from the mid 1980s onwards.
The Lee Baths site consists of an enclosed compound of 1.429 hectares (3.69 acres) surrounded by metal railing circa 2 metres (7/5) high. Inside this compound is the Lee Baths itself, changing rooms with an open grassed area of 0.44 hectares (1.1 acres). There is an area of filled ground to the east of the compound measuring 0.874 hectares (2 acres). Their photographs are proudly displayed in the hotel’s Health Club.
